About this experience

Lakpura collects you from your Beruwala hotel and drives you south in an air-conditioned vehicle to Udawalawe National Park — a 30,821-hectare sanctuary that sits just below the Central Highlands and is widely compared to an African game park. The three-hour journey sets you down at the park entrance, where you board a jeep and head into open grassland and scrub forest with your English-speaking chauffeur. Udawalawe is Sri Lanka's most reliable spot for wild elephants, and the reservoir at its heart draws large herds throughout the day.

The jeep safari covers the park's network of tracks while you scan for elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, and a wide variety of birdlife. A litre of bottled mineral water per person is provided for the ride. Entrance tickets, meals, and gratuities are not included. Children aged seven and above are welcome on this private, full-day excursion, which runs for nine hours door to door.
