About this experience
Board your air-conditioned vehicle in Habarana and head to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the UNESCO World Heritage Site that dominates the Sri Lankan Cultural Triangle. Climb the ancient citadel, walk the gallery of the famous frescoes, and take in the symmetrical water gardens laid out by King Kassapa in the 5th century. Your English-speaking driver is with you throughout the 6.5-hour private tour, and two 500 ml water bottles per person keep you going on the ascent.
After the rock, the tour moves into the surrounding countryside for a Sigiriya village experience. Walk the footpaths, meet local families, and sit down to a traditional Sri Lankan lunch prepared by the community. Hotel pick-up and drop-off are included; entrance tickets to the Lion Rock, personal expenses, and gratuities are not. Minimum age for this private tour is 7.
