About this experience
Masks carry the characters, emotions and legends of Sri Lankan tradition, and this two-hour session in Sigiriya puts one in your hands to paint. Before you pick up a brush, a local artisan introduces the characters, colours, expressions and symbols that recur in Sri Lankan mask art, including the bright, flame-crested Raksha masks.
You work at a long wooden table with your own five-inch traditional mask, the paint and tools set out beside you. Choose your colours, add the decorative details and build a design of your own on traditional lines, with the artisan on hand at every stage. The session also shows how decorative masks can be made from recycled plastic. When you have finished, the mask you painted is yours to take home.
Booking is per person for one to six guests, with instant confirmation and free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. It suits families, couples and groups who would rather make something with a Sri Lankan craft than only look at it.
