About this experience
Visit an arts and crafts shop tucked away in Galle Fort for a private, three-hour session with a host steeped in the age-old tradition of Kolam mask carving. You learn how masks are shaped from Kaduru, a light local wood, and why they've adorned walls and ceremonies across Sri Lanka for generations. Working alongside your host, you follow his techniques stage by stage, moulding your own mask from the same traditional, sustainable materials craftsmen have used for centuries.
A one-litre bottle of water per person is included, and since the session is private, your host's attention stays with your group throughout. Children aged five and up are welcome. Entrance tickets, food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. You leave Galle Fort with a hand-carved mask that's entirely your own work — not something pulled off a shop shelf.
