About this experience
Step into a traditional workshop near Bentota and spend three hours learning the ancient Sri Lankan art of mask carving alongside a skilled local host. Your guide walks you through each stage of the process — from shaping the wood to painting the vivid colours and patterns that define the island's iconic devil masks and kolam figures. A one-litre water bottle is provided for the session, and the workshop is private, so the instruction is focused entirely on your group.
Children aged five and above are welcome to join, making this a hands-on cultural activity suited to families and curious travellers alike. Entrance tickets, food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. At the end of the session, you leave with a mask you carved yourself — a far more personal souvenir than anything found in a gift shop.
