Laksuba Velvet Bean Powder is a single-ingredient powder of dehydrated velvet bean, Mucuna pruriens, from Sri Lanka, packed in a 100g pouch. The dark, glossy beans are ground to a fine, light brown powder that stirs into a cup or a bowl.
Laksuba is a Sri Lankan producer based at Walaporuwa, near Mawanella in the Kegalle District, which manufactures and distributes the powder itself under the line "For a Healthy & Long Life". The ingredient list on the pouch reads simply dehydrated velvet bean, and the product origin is given as Sri Lanka (Ceylon).
The maker's directions are to mix one teaspoon, approximately 5g, of the powder with water, milk, juice or yoghurt. For a warm drink, the powder can be boiled in 100ml of water or milk, left to cool slightly, then strained before drinking. Laksuba asks that the recommended daily amount of 5g is not exceeded unless a healthcare provider advises otherwise, and that anyone pregnant, nursing or taking medication consults a professional first.
Keep the pouch sealed in a cool, dry place, and use the powder within two months of opening. It is offered as a traditional preparation, not as a medicine.
