The Lakpura® Premium Quality Ceylon Spices Gift Pack is a set of four Sri Lankan spices, cloves, turmeric, white pepper and black pepper, each in its own kraft-paper carton and packed together in one illustrated gift box. It is a compact way to carry a little of the island's spice trade home, or to hand it on to someone who cooks.
The outer box is printed with a painted village market scene: thatched stalls, coconut palms, bullock carts, a rickshaw and people carrying baskets on their heads, with the name The Withered Leaves Tea And Spices Company set on a small label above the picture. The same painting wraps around the sides of the box, so it looks finished from every angle.
Inside, the four tall cartons stand side by side, each marked Spice of Ceylon and named in bold script at the foot. Every carton carries its own small painting of a figure at work, signed Artwork by Supun Poorna Abeysinghe, and a round window near the top shows the spice inside. Through those windows the cloves, the pieces of dried turmeric root and the pale white peppercorns are all whole rather than ground.
White and black pepper come from the same vine and differ in how they are prepared. Black pepper is made from the green, unripe fruit, dried until the skin darkens and wrinkles, while white pepper is the seed of the ripe fruit with its thin outer skin removed. Having both in one box makes the difference easy to see and taste side by side.
