About this experience
Board your private boat and head out across the calm, saline waters of Kalpitiya Lagoon — a vast 126-square-mile expanse bordering Wilpattu National Park on Sri Lanka's northwest coast. Over four hours, you glide past salt pans, distant sand dunes, prawn farms and small fishing villages, while open forests, coconut palms and marshlands line the shore. An expert naturalist joins you on board with binoculars, pointing out the flora, fauna and birdlife — endemic and common species alike — that make the lagoon their habitat.
Two of the four hours are dedicated to bird watching and exploring the mangrove ecosystem up close, with your naturalist guiding you through what's easy to miss without a trained eye. A picnic breakfast or lunch and water are included where applicable. This is a fully private activity, conducted in English, with a minimum age of five years. Hotel pick-up, entrance tickets and gratuities are not included.
