Kumarika Split End Control Nourishing Hair Oil is a coconut-based hair oil produced in Sri Lanka by Hemas Manufacturing, the company behind the Kumarika range. It is sold in 100 ml and 200 ml bottles, each capped in orange, and is also available as a twin pack of two 200 ml bottles for those who go through it regularly. The range was relaunched in 2021 with a revised formulation and updated packaging.
The formulation centres on two forms of coconut oil — Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil and Cocos Nucifera var. nantilasa, the Virgin King Coconut Oil particular to Sri Lanka — carried in a mineral oil base. Alongside these, the ingredient declaration lists Oryza sativa (Rice Bran) Oil, Nelumbo Nucifera (Lotus) Extract, Tocopherol, and Vitamin E as antioxidant components, plus two standard cosmetic UV-filter actives. The front of the bottle highlights four ingredients by their local Sinhala names — Ban Thambu, Rice Bean, Shiu Nelum (the lotus), and Pure Coconut Oil — giving the formula a grounding in indigenous botanical tradition that is characteristic of the Kumarika brand.
Kumarika holds SLS certification from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, making it the first hair oil brand in Sri Lanka to receive this recognition. The certification covers the full production journey, from raw material sourcing through manufacturing and packaging, under Sri Lanka standard specifications. The oil is manufactured at Hemas's facility in Bulgapitiya, Danawthura, Sri Lanka.
To use, apply the oil to the scalp before bathing, or smooth it through the hair for a more manageable, glossy finish. The directions on the packaging suggest it can be used either way, making it straightforward to work into an existing routine. The 100 ml bottle is a practical size for travel or first-time buyers, while the 200 ml and twin-pack options suit everyday household use.
