About this experience
Lace up your boots and set off through the forested hills above Kandy on this private six-hour hike to Heeloya, a traditional village where daily life has changed little over generations. Your English-speaking guide leads you along trails that wind past paddy fields and waterfalls, pointing out the rhythms of rural Sri Lanka as you climb. Minimum age for this hike is 13, and refreshments with energy slabs are provided along the route to keep you going.
On arrival in Heeloya, you join your host in the kitchen and lend a hand preparing a full village lunch — a genuine, hands-on introduction to local cooking. Sit down to eat the meal you've helped make, surrounded by the sights and sounds of hill-country life. Note that transport to the trailhead is not included, so arrange your own transfer to Rangala before the hike begins.
