About this experience
Meet your guide in Kandy and set off on a private four-hour cycling tour into the Hanthana hills. Your first stop is the Ceylon Tea Museum, housed inside the abandoned Hanthana Tea Factory, built in 1925. Walk through two floors of historic tea-processing machinery, explore exhibits tracing the story of Ceylon Tea through the ages, and browse the library on the third floor before rounding it off with a fresh cup of hot tea at the on-site café. Note that the museum entry ticket is not included, so bring a little extra cash.
Back on the saddle, you follow a winding trail through the working plantation, with rows of vivid green tea bushes stretching toward a backdrop of distant mountains. Your mountain bike and helmet are provided, along with a bottle of water to keep you going. With English-speaking guidance throughout and no more than your own group in tow, this is a relaxed yet rewarding way to see one of Kandy's most scenic corners.
