About this experience
Galoya Eco Park is one of the newest and least-visited wildlife reserves in Sri Lanka's dry zone, managed by the Forest Department and lying close to Habarana and Minneriya. It is an off-the-beaten-track alternative to its famous neighbours: the same wild Asian elephants that draw crowds to Minneriya and Kaudulla move through Galoya in large herds, but you share the tracks with only a handful of other jeeps.
What you see
• Wild elephants: family herds with calves feeding and bathing, especially through the dry season when they gather near water.
• Deer and other wildlife of the dry-zone forest.
• Birdlife: a rich variety of species, so bring binoculars if you have them.
How it works
The jeep is private: one to six guests, no strangers sharing the vehicle. Your driver knows the reserve and doubles as your tracker, stopping the engine for sightings and giving you time for photographs. The safari takes about three to four hours, with departures from 5:30 am; tell us your preferred start time when you book.
When you book, choose whether park entrance tickets are included or paid by you at the gate, and whether to add a professional guide who rides with your group and explains what you are seeing.

Good to know
• Suitable for ages 6 and over. Not wheelchair accessible.
• Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed; the dry season is usually the best time for large elephant herds.
• Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and a light layer for the early-morning start.
• Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the safari; no refund for later cancellations.
