About this experience
Step into a vintage classic car at 8:00 am as your chauffeur guide collects you from your hotel and leads you on a private four-hour loop around Galle and its surrounding countryside. Inside the fort walls, you cruise past colonial-era residences, shops, and churches before pausing at the ramparts for photographs and a brief history of the fortifications. The tour then heads out into the rural lanes beyond Galle — past paddy fields, quiet villages, and the tranquil Mahamodara Lagoon — before stopping at Wakwella Dam on the Gin River and the landmark Wakwella Bridge, once the longest in Sri Lanka.
Along the way you visit a master woodcarver whose workshop produces the iconic Kandy Perahera Elephant, and you have a go at carving one yourself. A silversmith's workshop follows, where you watch traditional jewellery being crafted by hand. On the return leg, stop in a village and choose between a freshly cut king coconut or a cup of black tea brewed the traditional way. Water and refreshments are included throughout; your guide, private classic car, and all taxes are covered. You're back at your hotel by noon.
