This five-day tour threads together Kandy and the Sigiriya area with a focus on nature and village life rather than monument-hopping alone. It opens with a transfer from Colombo to Kandy and a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, then settles into the Sigiriya region for the remaining days, where cultural sites sit alongside village walks, forest trekking and stream swimming.
Travellers get a mix of heritage sites - the Temple of the Tooth, the Dambulla cave temples and the Sigiriya rock fortress - with slower-paced, hands-on experiences: a village walk that takes in local farming and jaggery-making, a river swim, and time at the Dehigaha Ela Eco Lodge trekking along a forest stream and bathing in its pools. It suits travellers who want to balance sightseeing with outdoor activity and some genuine contact with rural Sri Lankan life.
The tour runs in a private air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking chauffeur guide throughout, who handles airport transfers and day-to-day logistics.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Kandy
Colombo → Kandy
After arrival at Colombo International Airport, a chauffeur guide meets travellers and drives them to Kandy.
Temple of the Tooth Relic This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built in the 16th century to house and protect the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. Visitors walk through richly decorated passageways and painted halls in red, cream and black, past carved pillars and golden statues.
Day 2
Sigiriya
Sigiriya
A guided walk through the villages around Sigiriya introduces local rural life and ends with a swim.
Village walk A trained village guide leads a walk through traditional villages, showing how households go about their daily chores and pointing out locally grown crops such as cocoa, pepper, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla, as well as how jaggery is made from kithul flower sap. The walk ends with a swim in the river alongside locals washing clothes, or at a nearby waterfall reached by a short jungle walk.
Day 3
Sigiriya
Sigiriya
The day covers the ancient cave temples of Dambulla and a remote patch of wilderness near the Dehigaha Ela area.
Golden Temple of Dambulla These historic cave temples date back to the 1st century BC and contain ancient murals depicting the life of the Buddha alongside hundreds of Buddha and deity figurines across five main caves, including the Cave of the Divine King, the Cave of the Great King and the Great New Monastery. A giant golden Buddha statue stands a short distance outside the cave complex.
Back of Beyond - Dehigaha Ela Red earth roads lead through chena cultivation, tall grass and thick forest to an abandoned paddy field grown over with illuk grass, a circular clearing at the base of a hill ringed by forest where two streams meet. It is a quiet spot used by elephants, sambhur, birds and butterflies.
Day 4
Sigiriya
Sigiriya
A day centred on the Dehigaha Ela Eco Lodge and its stream, given over to trekking and swimming.
Dehigaha Ela Eco Lodge The cold, clear Dehigaha Ela stream meets the warmer Kiri Oya River at the edge of the lodge, and a trek along the stream leads to natural pools where visitors can bathe under the tumbling water or simply cool off, with small fish nibbling at their toes.
Day 5
Colombo
Sigiriya → Colombo
Before departure, the tour takes in the Sigiriya rock fortress, then transfers to Bandaranaike International Airport.
Sigiriya Rock Fortress This 5th-century AD rock fortress was the seat of King Kasyapa. The climb passes through an entrance framed by giant lion's paws, past the rock's well-known ancient murals, up a steep staircase to terraced gardens and still-functioning cisterns, and through tunnels leading to the former palace.
