About this experience
Climb onto a mountain bike and ride out from your hotel into the quieter corners of Tissamaharama — known locally as Tissa — on this private two-hour cycling excursion. Your experienced guide leads the full route along gravel roads past village houses, wandering buffalos with birds perched on their heads, and peacocks picking through paddy fields and surrounding shrubs, with birdsong following you the whole way. Mountain bikes, helmets, and a bottle of water per person are provided, and hotel pick-up and drop-off are included.
The ride reaches its climax at a lake bank, where you visit a village Chena cultivation and spend time one-on-one with local villagers — watching their farming methods, learning about their natural medicines and eating habits, and seeing a way of life closely tied to the land. Open to cyclists aged five and above, this is a genuine option for families. Entrance fees, meals, drinks, and personal expenses are excluded, so carry some cash if you plan to stop.
