About this experience
Board a private safari jeep — seating up to six passengers — and head into Bundala National Park, a Ramsar-designated wetland on Sri Lanka's southern coast. Over three hours, your knowledgeable guide points out the seasonal residents: flamingos wading in the lagoons, painted storks, pelicans, and dozens of migratory waterbirds that fly in from as far as Siberia each winter. Butterflies flit through the scrub alongside the track, adding an extra layer of colour to the landscape.
The tour departs from Tissamaharama, making it an easy add-on to any southern itinerary. Lakpura arranges the jeep and guide; bring your own food, drinks, and a tip if you feel the service deserves one. Minimum age is five, so families are welcome. Binoculars and a long lens will serve you well here.
