About this experience
Board your air-conditioned vehicle in Colombo and head to Kitulgala, where a private full-day forest trek puts you inside one of Sri Lanka's richest rainforest ecosystems. An expert naturalist guide leads you through dense undergrowth along the broad banks of the Kelani River, pointing out endemic birds, reptiles, and other wildlife as you go. The entrance ticket is included, and a dugout outrigger canoe takes you across the river — a highlight before the trek proper begins. Keep your eyes on the canopy; Kitulgala is a premier birdwatching site in Sri Lanka.
The trail winds past roaring white waterfalls and through the forest where the 1957 Academy Award-winning film The Bridge on the River Kwai was shot on location. A Sri Lankan lunch is included. The tour runs approximately nine and a half hours and is suitable for children aged five and above. Gratuities and additional drinks are at your own expense.
