Bilesma Natural Saffron Face Cream is a 50ml leave-on face cream made entirely in Sri Lanka, registered with the country's Ayurveda Department and formulated around a core of traditional herbal ingredients led by Kankuma — saffron, derived from the dried stigmas of Crocus sativus. The brand, Bilesma Natural, manufactures the cream at its facility in Pitakotte and markets it from Nugegoda, and the packaging carries the explicit statement that it is 100% Sri Lankan in origin.
The ingredient list draws from both classical Ayurvedic plant materials and modern cosmetic science. Alongside saffron, the cream contains Sudubandan (Santalum album, white sandalwood), Kokum (Kokoona ceylanica, a plant endemic to Sri Lanka and distinct from the Indian food-grade kokum), Kasthari Kaha (Curcuma aromatica, wild turmeric), Venivel (Coscinium fenestratum), Suvanda kaitan (Saussurea lappa), Welangiri (Pterocarpus santalinus L., red sandalwood), and Sevendara (Vetiveria zizanoides). These are carried in a base of coconut oil and water, with fragrance, TEA as an emulsifier and pH adjuster, and Phenoxyethanol as a preservative.
Saffron has a well-documented role in cosmetic formulations as a skin-conditioning and antioxidant ingredient, attributed to its active compounds crocin, crocetin, and safranal — functions formally recognised under the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. White sandalwood is likewise recognised under INCI as an emollient and masking ingredient. The remaining botanical ingredients represent a considered selection from Sri Lanka's own herbal tradition, giving the cream a character that is rooted in local Ayurvedic practice.
To use the cream, cleanse the face first, then apply a small amount gently across the skin and leave it on. The manufacturer recommends applying at least twice a day and advises avoiding direct sunlight after application. The 50ml jar has a shelf life of 24 months from manufacture, as printed on the packaging.
