About this experience
Pick up from your Hikkaduwa hotel and head north in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with your English-speaking chauffeur guide. First stop is Lunuganga, the former country estate of renowned architect Sir Geoffrey Bawa — a quietly striking garden landscape that rewards a slow, curious walk. From there, the tour continues to the Meetiyagoda Moonstones Mines, where you can see how Sri Lanka's prized blue moonstones are extracted from the earth.
The final leg brings you to Balapitiya for a boat safari on the Madu River — a network of mangrove islands teeming with birdlife and river monitor lizards. A water bottle per person is included throughout. Entrance tickets and meals are not covered. The full day runs approximately nine hours, and the minimum age for participation is five years old.
