About this experience
Board your air-conditioned vehicle in Ahangama and head north along the coast with your English-speaking chauffeur guide. First stop is Lunuganga, the iconic country estate of architect Sir Geoffrey Bawa — wander its sculpted gardens and terraces that blur the line between landscape and design. Next, step underground at the Meetiyagoda Moonstones Mines to see Sri Lanka's prized gemstones in their raw, natural setting.
The final leg takes you to Balapitiya for a one-boat safari on the Madu River — glide through mangrove channels and spot the wildlife tucked along the banks. A water bottle per person is provided throughout the day. Note that entrance fees for Lunuganga Estate and the Madu River Safari are not included. Hotel pickup and drop-off from Ahangama is arranged, and the full tour runs approximately nine hours. Minimum age is five years.
