This shared cruise takes a morning and early afternoon out of Trincomalee on a catamaran, heading for deep water to look for whales and dolphins before settling into a quieter bay for a swim. It suits solo travellers, couples and small groups who are happy to share the deck with other passengers and the crew.
The boat leaves Dutch Bay at 6:30 am, and breakfast is prepared on board as the morning opens up over the sea. Once out in deeper water, everyone watches together; if whales surface, the crew call guests to the bow or the upper deck for a clearer view. Whales and dolphins are wild, so sightings can never be guaranteed, but the time spent searching is the heart of the trip.
After the search, the catamaran anchors near Thirukoneswaram Temple, which stands on Swami Rock, the headland dividing Dutch Bay from Back Bay. Here you can stay aboard and take in the view or get into the water of Back Bay to swim, snorkel or try stand-up paddleboarding.
Welcome drinks, breakfast, lunch and tea or coffee are included, and lunch is served on board before the cruise finishes at 1:30 pm. It is a shared departure rather than a private charter, and additional fees apply if you would like the time extended.
