When bride and groom share Tula (Libra) as their rashi, Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham give a clear picture at the rashi level, but not the full story. This page explains what the calculator shows for a Tula and Tula pairing and why the birth stars matter most.
Which Tula is meant here?
In Sri Lankan matching, the rashi is your moon sign (chandra rashi), the sign the Moon occupied at birth in the sidereal zodiac. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so someone who reads Libra in a magazine may have a different chandra rashi.
Because both people here have Tula as their moon sign, there is only one direction to consider. Whether the bride or the groom is counted first, the result is the same. The Moon in Tula falls in the birth stars Chitra (last two quarters), Swati and Vishakha (first three quarters), giving nine star quarters for each person and 81 possible combinations for the couple.
What does the rashi count of 1 mean?
The rashi count measures how far the groom's sign is from the bride's, counting the bride's own sign as one. When both share Tula, the count is 1, meaning the two Moons sit in the same sign.
For this pairing, the calculator marks the rashi item as obtained in Sinhala porondam and rasi as obtained in Tamil porutham. A shared moon sign is treated as a settled, compatible placement at this level of the reading.
This is a helpful first indication, but the rashi count is only one item. Several of the most weighted checks depend on the individual birth stars rather than on the sign, so a good rashi result should be read alongside the rest of the chart.
Are the rashi lords friends, and what about vashya?
Tula is ruled by Venus, so both partners share the same rashi lord. Since the planet is the same, the question of friendship between two lords does not arise, and the calculator marks rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) as obtained.
Vashya looks at a traditional grouping of signs and whether one sign is drawn towards the other. For Tula with Tula, the calculator shows vashya as not obtained in both the Sinhala and Tamil systems.
One item not being obtained is common and is never judged in isolation. Astrologers weigh it together with the star-based items, which usually carry more significance in the final assessment.
Why do the birth stars decide the real match?
Most porondam and porutham items, including nakshatra, gana, yoni and rajju, are calculated from the two birth stars (nakshatra) and their quarters, not from the rashi. Two Tula couples can therefore receive very different results.
Across the 81 star-quarter combinations possible for Tula with Tula, the calculator finds that only 7% reach 8 of 10 Tamil porutham, while 36% come out weak in the Tamil system and 36% do not obtain rajju. In Sinhala porondam, 32% of combinations pass when the weekday item is set aside.
These figures show how varied outcomes are. Enter both full birth details in the calculator, and for marriage decisions, consult your family astrologer.
