IF Villa, Galle, Sri Lanka
IF Villa is a magnificent five-bedroomed Dutch colonial villa set within a two-acre tropical garden on the south coast of Sri Lanka. Space and privacy define the experience here — the sweeping grounds are filled with well-clipped grassy lawns, swaying palms and scented frangipani trees, while a stunning strip of private beach borders the garden, enhanced by a beautiful coral lagoon. The lagoon offers some of the safest year-round swimming and snorkelling on the south coast, making IF Villa a particularly fine choice for families with children.
The villa sits on the Galle coast, just a short drive — around 20 minutes — from the historic city of Galle, described as one of the largest living forts in the world. This location balances peaceful seclusion with easy access to one of Sri Lanka's most celebrated heritage destinations.
Architecture and Interiors
An open courtyard with a lotus pond marks the entrance to the villa and sets the tone for what lies within. The layout follows the tradition of a southern walawe, or ancestral home, with a spacious living room and all five bedrooms bordered on three sides by wrap-around pillared verandahs. Sumptuously cushioned sofas fill the interior, while plentiful planters' chairs line the clay-tiled verandah — both offer a perfect vantage point over the swimming pool and, beyond it, the glittering Indian Ocean.
Life at IF Villa
A dedicated staff of six tends to every need, allowing guests to move freely between cooling dips in the pool or ocean and long, lazy lunches on the sun-drenched terrace overlooking the lagoon. As evening falls, dinner and barbecues are served in the separate Dining Pavilion or at the beach terrace, with the villa's chef taking care of all culinary requirements. For those who find the urge to be active, the beach is well suited to long strolls, and the historic town of Galle is only a few kilometres away.
The Garden and Beach Setting
The two-acre tropical garden wraps the villa in a sea of green, providing a natural buffer that reinforces the sense of privacy. The private beach gives direct access to the coral lagoon, which shelters the shoreline and creates calm, safe conditions for swimming throughout the year. The combination of lush garden, pool and lagoon means that guests rarely need to venture far to find a change of scenery.
