A Sinhala retelling of Red Riding Hood, issued as part of a series of well-known fairy tales produced as pop-up books. The text is set in simple Sinhala, with colour illustrations throughout, a hard cover, and pages that rise as the book is opened.
The whole book is in Sinhala — there is no English text — so it suits households reading with children in Sinhala, families abroad keeping the language alive at home, and anyone collecting Sinhala children's books. The story itself will already be familiar to most buyers, which can make it an easier first book for a child still finding their footing in reading.
Niranjan Chaminda Karunathilake prepared the Sinhala text. The book comes from M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, a Colombo publishing house with a long-standing list of Sinhala and English titles, including books for schools and younger readers.
Pop-up construction means the book is as much an object to handle as a text to read, and it is intended for small children, with the sturdier hard cover that implies. Other titles in the same fairy-tale series share the format.
