A picture book put together for schoolchildren, arranged by subject. The pages gather images of flowers, fruits, spices and butterflies, alongside heads of state, clothing and the national flags of different countries, with further topics besides.
The labelling is trilingual: each picture is named in Sinhala, Tamil and English. International buyers should know that this is a Sinhala publication from a Sinhala-language house, so the surrounding text and the general orientation of the book are Sinhala — but the English naming means a reader without Sinhala can still follow what is on the page, and the book works as a word-and-picture reference for a child learning any of the three.
It follows an earlier picture book issued under the same name, continuing the same approach of grouping pictures under headings rather than telling a story.
The publisher, M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, is a long-established Colombo house publishing schoolbooks and general titles in Sinhala and English, and its name is a familiar one on Sri Lankan classroom shelves. This is the kind of book bought for a young child at home or for early school use, and it suits families abroad who want their children to keep up Sinhala and Tamil vocabulary alongside English.
