An early learning picture book from the First Explorer Series, made for children of about two years and above who are just beginning to put words and ideas together. The series takes one first concept per book and presents it through large, colourful illustrations; this title takes counting.
The pages carry groups of everyday objects to be counted from one to ten, so that a child learns to recognise each number, match it to a quantity, and say it aloud. Alongside the counting itself, the book is intended to build vocabulary and observation — naming what is on the page, noticing how many there are — which is where early mathematical thinking begins.
It is a book to be shared rather than handed over. A parent, grandparent or teacher reads and points, the child answers, and the counting becomes a game played again and again. For a preschool or nursery shelf, it sits naturally beside the other concept titles in the same series, each following the same bright, uncluttered approach.
