Kuruluthuda is a traditional Sri Lankan red rice variety, sold here by Bowatte. The name means "bird's beak" in Sinhala. It is a red rice with a pleasant taste and a good amount of fibre.
It is cooked as a plain rice to serve with curries, and is often given to young children and to nursing mothers in Sri Lankan homes.
How to cook
Rinse the rice a few times, then boil it or cook it in a rice cooker. Red rice usually needs more water and a longer cooking time than polished white rice; see the label.
In the pack
One 500g pack of raw red rice.
Storage
Keep in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
