Mithuna and Kanya Porondam

Image générée par IA · pas une photographie réelle

Mithuna (Gemini) and Kanya (Virgo) are both ruled by Mercury, which gives this pairing a shared foundation at the rashi level. This page explains what the Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham rashi checks show for this pair, in both directions, and why the two birth stars ultimately decide the match.

Which rashi is being matched here?

In Sri Lankan marriage matching, the rashi is the moon sign (chandra rashi), the sign the Moon occupied at birth in the sidereal zodiac. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so someone who reads as Gemini in a magazine may have a quite different moon sign.

Both Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham look at several rashi-level items: the rashi count between the two signs, whether the two rashi lords are friendly, and vashya. These are only part of the full assessment. The results also depend on which partner holds which sign, so Mithuna and Kanya are explained below in both directions, because the outcomes are not identical.

What happens when the bride is Mithuna and the groom is Kanya?

Counting from the bride's Mithuna to the groom's Kanya gives a rashi count of 4. In Sinhala porondam, the rashi item is partly obtained. In Tamil porutham, the rasi item is not obtained for this count.

The rashi lord item is obtained in both traditions. Both signs are ruled by Mercury, so the two lords are the same planet, which is treated as a harmonious relationship. Vashya is also obtained in both the Sinhala and Tamil systems.

So in this direction, two of the three rashi-level items are fully obtained in each tradition, with the rashi count itself being the softer point.

What happens when the bride is Kanya and the groom is Mithuna?

Reversing the pair changes the count. From the bride's Kanya to the groom's Mithuna gives a rashi count of 10. Here the rashi item is obtained in both Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham.

The rashi lord item is again obtained in both traditions, since Mercury rules both signs. In Sinhala porondam, vashya is obtained, making all three rashi-level items obtained in this direction.

In Tamil porutham, vasya is not obtained in this direction, while rasi and rasi adhipathi are both obtained. This shows how the two traditions can weigh the same pair of signs a little differently.

Why do the birth stars matter more than the rashis?

A rashi contains parts of several nakshatras, and each star is divided into quarters. For any pair of rashis there are 81 star-quarter combinations, and the full match is decided by the two actual birth stars.

With the bride in Mithuna and the groom in Kanya, about 37% of combinations reach 8 of 10 porutham, and about 57% pass Sinhala porondam (excluding the weekday item). With the bride in Kanya and the groom in Mithuna, these figures are about 40% and 75%. In both directions, around 5% of combinations are weak in Tamil matching and around 5% involve a rajju clash.

Using the calculator with full birth details, and consulting a family astrologer for marriage decisions, gives the clearest picture.
