Mesha and Vrischika Porondam

This page explains how Mesha (Aries) and Vrischika (Scorpio) are read in Sri Lankan marriage matching, through both Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham. The rashi here is the moon sign (chandra rashi) in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka, not the sun sign printed in newspaper columns. Rashi results are only the outer layer, and the birth stars carry far more weight.

What does the rashi count show for Mesha and Vrischika?

The rashi count is taken from the bride's sign to the groom's. With a Mesha bride and a Vrischika groom, the count is 8. Sinhala porondam treats rashi as partly obtained, while Tamil porutham treats rasi as not obtained.

In the reverse direction, a Vrischika bride and a Mesha groom, the count is 6. Here rashi is not obtained in both the Sinhala and Tamil systems.

The direction matters because the count changes when bride and groom are swapped. That is why families should always check the pairing the right way round, and not assume a result for one direction holds for the other.

Are the rashi lords of Mesha and Vrischika friends?

Both Mesha and Vrischika are ruled by Mars. When the two rashi lords are the same planet, the relationship is the closest possible, and the calculator marks this item as obtained.

This holds in both directions and in both traditions. Rashyadhipathi in Sinhala porondam and rasi adhipathi in Tamil porutham are obtained whether the bride is Mesha and the groom Vrischika, or the other way round.

This shared lordship is one of the steadier features of this pairing. It is still only one item among many, and it is weighed alongside the star-based checks that a full reading includes.

How does vashya work for this pair?

Vashya looks at whether one sign is traditionally regarded as drawn towards the other. For this pair the result depends entirely on direction.

With a Mesha bride and a Vrischika groom, vashya is obtained in Sinhala porondam, and vasya is likewise obtained in Tamil porutham.

With a Vrischika bride and a Mesha groom, vashya is not obtained in either system.

Taken together with the rashi count, the first direction shows more rashi-level items obtained than the second. Yet, as the next section shows, the rashi layer alone does not tell you how a real couple's chart will turn out once their birth stars are known.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Each rashi spans nine star-quarters (nakshatra padas), so any Mesha–Vrischika pairing covers 81 possible star-quarter combinations. Most porondam and porutham items are worked out from the stars, not the signs.

With a Mesha bride and Vrischika groom, about 60% of combinations pass Sinhala porondam (excluding the weekday check), about 5% reach 8 of 10 Tamil poruthams, and none fall into the weak Tamil range or show a rajju clash.

Reversed, about 80% pass Sinhala porondam, again about 5% reach 8 of 10, none show a rajju clash, and about 49% are weak in Tamil terms. The direction with fewer rashi items obtained passes Sinhala porondam more often, which shows clearly why the stars matter most.
