Kataka and Makara Porondam

Image générée par IA · pas une photographie réelle

Kataka (Cancer) and Makara (Capricorn) sit directly opposite each other in the zodiac, which gives this pairing a distinctive set of rashi-level results in both Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham. Here we explain what the site's calculator finds for this pair, whichever partner is in which sign, and why the two birth stars matter far more than the rashis alone.

What does the rashi count mean for Kataka and Makara?

The rashi used here is the moon sign (chandra rashi) in the sidereal zodiac followed in Sri Lanka, not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes.

Counting from the bride's sign to the groom's gives 7 in both directions, because Kataka and Makara face each other across the zodiac. In Sinhala porondam the calculator marks rashi porondama as obtained for this count, whether the bride is Kataka and the groom Makara or the other way round. In Tamil porutham, however, rasi porutham is marked not obtained in both directions. The two traditions weigh the same count differently, so a family consulting both systems will see different verdicts on this single item.

Are the rashi lords, the Moon and Saturn, friends?

Kataka is ruled by the Moon and Makara by Saturn. In the classical scheme of planetary friendship the relationship between them is neutral and hostile: one lord regards the other as neutral, while the other does not regard it as a friend. Because the two lords are not mutual friends, the calculator marks rashyadhipathi porondama (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi porutham (Tamil) as not obtained.

This holds in both directions, since the lords and their relationship stay the same whichever partner is born under which sign. It is one item among many, and it is read alongside the birth-star results rather than on its own.

Is vashya obtained between Kataka and Makara?

Vashya looks at whether one sign is traditionally considered to be drawn towards, or responsive to, the other. For Kataka and Makara the calculator marks vashya porondama in the Sinhala system and vasya porutham in the Tamil system as not obtained.

As with the rashi lords, the result is the same in both directions: a Kataka bride with a Makara groom and a Makara bride with a Kataka groom receive the same vashya status. Taken together, the rashi-level picture for this pair is one item obtained in Sinhala porondam and none obtained in Tamil porutham. That is only the starting point, though, because the most important factors depend on the birth stars.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Each rashi contains parts of three nakshatras, so a Kataka–Makara pair can fall into 81 different star-quarter combinations. Outcomes vary widely across them. With a Kataka bride and a Makara groom, 64% of combinations pass Sinhala porondam (excluding the weekday factor); with a Makara bride and a Kataka groom, 77% do. In Tamil porutham, 70% of combinations are weak in both directions and none reach 8 of 10 poruthams, although none show a rajju clash.
