Nine years after the failed Discovery expedition to Jupiter, a joint U.S.-Soviet mission races across the solar system to investigate the derelict spacecraft and uncover what happened to Commander Dave Bowman. When a Chinese expedition suddenly enters the competition for the same objective, the recovery mission becomes a tense struggle for control of HAL 9000's memory banks and the secrets they contain. Arthur C. Clarke's sequel combines hard science fiction with high-stakes space drama in this worthy follow-up to 2001.
