The Ambassador's house, Galle, Sri Lanka

Tucked within the walls of Galle's historic Dutch Fort, The Ambassador's House is a residence of great majesty and beauty. It was, until recently, the home of Bangladesh's representative in Sri Lanka, before being taken over and thoughtfully restored by its present owners. The renovations revealed ancient archways and brought back to life the characteristic architecture of the Dutch period — high ceilings, decorated columns, alcoves, and gardens set tastefully throughout the property.

Situated inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the house places guests within easy walking distance of an old Dutch Church, the Dutch Museum, and the Sea Museum. The Galle International Cricket Stadium is also close by, making it an ideal base for those who wish to take in a game of cricket before settling in for an evening of fine seafood.

Accommodation

The house offers five spacious, air-conditioned bedrooms in total — three standard rooms each with attached bathrooms, and two en-suite bedrooms. The rooms on the first floor open out onto a rooftop garden and sundeck that blooms with flowers, lending the stay a sense of quiet seclusion.
