Petter's Beach Inn, Kalutara, Sri Lanka

Petter's Beach Inn is a Norwegian-owned guesthouse and hotel set directly on the beach at Kalutara North, on Sri Lanka's south-west coast, approximately 40 km south of Colombo. Built in 2004 and 2005, the property combines a relaxed seaside atmosphere with a standard of comfort and cleanliness that its owners describe as high and western in character.

The beach itself is long and sandy, lined with coconut palms — an inviting stretch that defines the setting. For guests who prefer calmer waters, the inn also offers a swimming pool as a convenient alternative.

Accommodation

The property is spread across four houses arranged around a well-kept garden. One fully equipped house rises across two floors and covers 260 square metres, containing three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a generous 90-square-metre terrace. A second, single-storey house holds five rentable double rooms alongside the inn's restaurant. A separate bungalow offers a large triple room fitted with two fans, a bathroom with cold and hot water, a massage room, a sitting area, and a sizeable terrace facing the ocean on the upper level. The fourth house is reserved primarily for staff.

All rooms are decorated with original paintings by Sri Lankan painters. Every double room includes air conditioning as part of the room rate.

Facilities and Dining

The terrace of the bungalow is equipped with a mini-pool and a shower, offering guests a private spot to cool off with a view of the ocean. The restaurant serves both western and eastern cuisine at what the inn describes as reasonable prices, with a kitchen capable of catering to a range of tastes.
