Kumudu Valley Resort in Negombo offers a tranquil retreat close to nature, set within a tropical garden that borders a river and sits just 250 metres from the Indian Ocean. Located approximately 17 km from the International Airport in Katunayake along the A3 highway, and only 7 km from Negombo town, the resort is a roughly 30-minute drive from the airport — making it a convenient first or last stop on any journey through Sri Lanka.

Accommodation

The 20 chalets are divided equally into 10 standard rooms and 10 superior rooms. Standard rooms cover 35 sqm and each includes a veranda, air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito nets, a telephone, satellite television, a fridge and minibar, and a private bathroom with a shower and hot and cold water. Superior rooms are more expansive at 80 sqm and come with two verandas along with additional amenities such as a water boiler, a hair dryer and a personal safe. Both room types are well furnished and comfortably appointed.

Dining and Relaxation

The restaurant enjoys a fine view of the river and serves both à la carte and buffet meals. The menu draws on typical Sri Lankan dishes, special seafood preparations, and Western, Chinese and international cuisine. Adjoining the restaurant is a large sitting area for guests to unwind, while a bar provides a range of beverages. A decently sized outdoor swimming pool with resting chairs offers another way to relax, and the resort also provides quality Ayurvedic treatments affiliated with a well-established medical facility — a welcome remedy for travel fatigue.

Water Sports and Excursions

A water sports centre adjoins the resort, from which boat trips are organised around the surrounding area and up towards Negombo. The Ging Oya River is well suited to kayaking and water skiing, while fishing trips to the ocean are also available. Bicycles can be hired to explore the locality at a leisurely pace.

For those wishing to venture further, the resort arranges customised day trips and longer tours across the island. Notable destinations include the Cultural Triangle, the hill capital Kandy, the cooler climes of Nuwara-Eliya, and a range of wildlife sanctuaries and natural habitats.
