About this experience
Board a private 4WD jeep and head deep into the swamplands and jungles of Kumana National Park on Sri Lanka's south-eastern coast. Your experienced driver doubles as your tracker, guiding you through dense vegetation as migratory species — drawn here since the park was first recognised as a critical nesting ground in 1938 — fill the canopy alongside year-round residents. With a maximum of six passengers per jeep, sightlines stay clear and stops are entirely on your terms. Each guest receives a 1-litre water bottle, and complimentary pickup and drop-off covers any location within 5 km of the park gate.
The full-day outing runs for 12 hours, giving you time to work through both the open wetlands and the thicker jungle interior. A naturalist accompanies the group to name species on sight and explain Kumana's ecology — useful context given the park only became independent from Yala National Park in 2006. Park entrance tickets, meals, and gratuities are not included, so budget for those separately. All taxes and service charges are covered by Lakpura.
