A Sinhala-language book for children about the country's national heroes. It is written entirely in Sinhala, with no English text, so it will suit readers and families who read the language, or schools teaching in it.
The book tells the stories of fifteen figures held up as national heroes in Sri Lanka, written for a young readership rather than for adults. The publisher presents it as a title for classroom and school library use, on the view that knowing the stories of heroic figures belongs in a child's education.
Lal Premanath De Mel is a state award-winning author. M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, the publisher, is a long-established Colombo house publishing in Sinhala and English, with a substantial list of school and children's titles.
Most useful to parents and teachers overseas who want Sinhala reading material for children that also carries something of Sri Lankan history, and to Sinhala-speaking families abroad building a small home library for their children.
