About this experience
Step into the dense jungle fringe around Kitulgala and hike to Belilena Cave, one of Sri Lanka's most significant Archaeological Reserves. Your English-speaking guide leads the way through the forest trail and into the cave chambers, where fossils and skeletal remains dating back over 10,000 years were unearthed — including those of the celebrated 'Balangoda Man', a milestone in understanding early human settlement on the island. A water bottle is provided to keep you going on the trail.
This private, three-hour tour is open to travellers aged five and above, keeping the pace relaxed and the group focused on you. Hotel pickup, meals, and gratuities are not included, so arrange your own transport to the meeting point. What you do leave with: a close look at a genuine prehistoric excavation site and the story of mankind's evolution told through the rock and earth of Sri Lanka's highlands.
