Sudu heenati (white heenati) is a traditional rice variety grown in Sri Lanka, sold here by Bowatte. Despite the name, the grain is red and of medium size; the name comes from the pale, lemon-coloured paddy, which darkens almost to black as it ripens.
The maker suggests eating it with the bran left on, as it is traditionally eaten in Sri Lanka.
How to cook
Rinse the rice a few times, then boil it or cook it in a rice cooker. Rice with the bran on usually needs more water and a longer cooking time than polished white rice; see the label.
