Anapanasathi Bhawana Widhi

Fra13.39 DKK

A Sinhala-language book on ānāpānasati bhāvanā — meditation on the in-breath and out-breath — written by Uthurawala Dhammarathana Thero and published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co. The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English translation, so it will suit readers who read the language rather than those approaching Buddhist practice through English sources.

The case the book sets out is a familiar one in Theravāda teaching, put directly: the fruit of meditation is greater than the merit gained through giving and through moral conduct. Meditation removes the five hindrances. The mind comes to rest on a single object, and that settling is one-pointedness, ekaggatā. From this the author argues that meritorious activity of the meditative kind is not an optional addition to dāna and sīla but something a practitioner needs to take up.

Of interest to Sinhala readers following a meditation practice, to students of Buddhist doctrine, and to Sri Lankan households abroad keeping dhamma books in the language they were written in.
