Vrishabha and Vrishabha Porondam

When a bride and groom are both born under Vrishabha (Taurus), families often wonder whether a shared sign helps or hinders the porondam. This page explains the rashi-level results from both the Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham traditions. It also shows why the two birth stars, not the sign alone, settle the real match.

What does it mean when both partners are Vrishabha?

In Sri Lankan matching, the rashi is the moon sign (chandra rashi) in the sidereal zodiac, not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes. So "Vrishabha" here means the Moon was in Taurus at each person's birth.

Because both partners share the same sign, the rashi count from bride to groom is 1. Counting the other way, from groom to bride, also gives 1. For a same-sign pair the two directions are therefore identical, and every rashi-level result below applies whichever partner you start from.

In both the Sinhala and Tamil systems, the calculator marks the rashi item as obtained for this count. That is a pleasant starting point, but it is only one item among many.

Are the rashi lords friendly when both are Vrishabha?

Vrishabha is ruled by Venus, so both partners share the same rashi lord. In the Sinhala rashyadhipathi and the Tamil rasi adhipathi, the calculator treats a shared lord as harmonious, and this item is obtained in both systems and in both directions.

Vashya (vasya in Tamil) looks at a particular kind of attraction or influence between signs. For a Vrishabha with Vrishabha pairing, the calculator marks vashya as not obtained in both traditions, again in both directions.

So at the rashi level the picture is two items obtained and one not obtained. Astrologers read these alongside the star-based items rather than on their own, so this is not a verdict on the match.

Why do the birth stars matter more than the rashi?

Most porondam and porutham items depend on the birth star (nakshatra) and its quarter, not the sign. Vrishabha covers nine star-quarters: the last three of Krittika, all four of Rohini and the first two of Mrigashira. Pairing these gives 81 possible star-quarter combinations for two Vrishabha partners.

Across those 81, outcomes vary widely. About 10% reach 8 of 10 Tamil poruthams, while about 43% come out weak in the Tamil reckoning. Rajju is not obtained in about 36%. On the Sinhala side, about 60% pass the porondam when the weekday item is set aside.

Two couples who are both Vrishabha can therefore receive very different results.

How should a family go about checking this match?

The most useful step is to enter full birth details for both people into the calculator: date, exact time and place of birth. From these it works out each person's moon sign, birth star and quarter, then shows each porondam or porutham item as obtained, partly obtained or not obtained.

Remember that a shared sign tells you only a little. The star-based items, including rajju, carry much of the weight, and they can only be read accurately from precise birth times.

For an actual marriage decision, take the results to a trusted family astrologer. They can look at the full horoscopes, explain how the traditions weigh each item, and consider the wider chart with care.
