Question 1

How many passengers does a Nissan Civilian hold?

Accepted Answer

The Nissan Civilian typically seats between 20 and 30 passengers, depending on the model year, market specification, and seat-spacing configuration. Some variants are fitted with fewer seats to allow extra legroom for premium or tour applications.

Question 2

What is the difference between the Nissan Civilian and the Toyota Coaster?

Accepted Answer

Both are full-size single-decker minibuses competing in the same capacity segment, and both are widely used for tourism in Asia. The principal differences lie in drivetrain specification, dealer network support, and interior fitment options. Fleet operators tend to choose between them based on local parts availability and running costs rather than significant performance differences.

Question 3

Is the Nissan Civilian used for tours in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Nissan Civilian is a common choice for medium-size tour groups in Sri Lanka, particularly for private transfers and multi-day itineraries where a single vehicle can accommodate 20 or more travellers. It is more manoeuvrable than a full coach while offering significantly more space than a minivan.

Question 4

What replaced the Nissan Echo?

Accepted Answer

The Nissan Civilian replaced the Nissan Echo in 1971. The Echo had been produced since 1958, and the Civilian retained its chassis coding conventions, reflecting the shared mechanical underpinnings between the two models.

Question 5

What is the Dongfeng Green Lotus?

Accepted Answer

The Dongfeng Green Lotus is the Chinese-market version of the Nissan Civilian, assembled and marketed by Dongfeng Motor Corporation through a joint venture with Nissan. The vehicle carries Nissan logos but is sold under the Green Lotus name in China.

Question 6

What are the main competitors of the Nissan Civilian?

Accepted Answer

In most of its key markets, the Civilian competes with the Mitsubishi Fuso Rosa, the Isuzu Journey, the Mazda Parkway, and the Toyota Coaster. These vehicles occupy broadly the same passenger-capacity segment and are often evaluated against each other by fleet operators and tourism companies.

Question 7

Can a Nissan Civilian handle Sri Lanka's mountain roads?

Accepted Answer

The Civilian manages most of Sri Lanka's main A-roads without difficulty. On very narrow or sharply curved mountain routes, the vehicle's length requires a more careful approach than a smaller van, and journey times on steep sections may be longer. Experienced local drivers familiar with these routes are recommended.
