Question 1

How much does a charter flight cost in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Pricing depends on the aircraft type, route, and number of passengers. Cessna 208 transfers from Colombo start at around USD 218 per sector for the aircraft (not per person), making them cost-effective for groups of four or more. Scenic flights and specialised routes such as aerial whale watching are priced separately. Contact Lakpura for a tailored quote.

Question 2

Can I charter a flight from Colombo to Sigiriya?

Accepted Answer

There is no dedicated airstrip at Sigiriya, but flights to Anuradhapura Airport (ACJ) or Dambulla bring you within a short road transfer of the Sigiriya rock fortress. Lakpura can arrange the connecting ground transport as part of the same booking.

Question 3

How many passengers can a charter flight carry in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

The Cessna 208 Caravan, the most common domestic charter aircraft, seats up to nine passengers. Smaller Cessna variants carry two to four. For larger groups, multiple aircraft can be coordinated to depart simultaneously.

Question 4

What is aerial whale watching from Koggala?

Accepted Answer

Aerial whale watching involves a light aircraft flight from Koggala Airport (KCT) heading south over the Indian Ocean to spot blue whales, sperm whales, and sometimes dolphins from the air. The vantage point makes it easier to locate whales across a wide search area than from a boat. The best season runs from roughly November through April.

Question 5

What luggage can I bring on a domestic charter flight in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Most light aircraft charters in Sri Lanka allow around 10–15 kg of soft-sided luggage per passenger. Hard-shell suitcases are difficult to fit in small cargo holds. Excess baggage can sometimes be transported by road to meet you at your destination if arranged in advance.

Question 6

Which airport do domestic charter flights depart from in Colombo?

Accepted Answer

Domestic charters out of Colombo typically depart from Ratmalana Airport (RML), located about 12 km south of the city centre — not from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Katunayake. Allow time for the road transfer from Colombo hotels to Ratmalana.

Question 7

Can I take a scenic flight over Galle and the southern coast?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Scenic flights over the southern coast operate from Koggala Airport near Galle, offering views of the coastline, lagoons, and colonial fort from the air. These are typically short flights of 30 to 60 minutes and can be booked as a standalone experience or added to a southern Sri Lanka itinerary.
