Walk into Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary, one of Sri Lanka's six RAMSAR Wetland sites, where three ecosystems — coast, mangroves, and freshwater tanks — meet within metres of each other. Situated in the Puttalam district between Chilaw and Puttalam, this private two-hour guided walk takes you through nesting and breeding grounds for hundreds of bird species. Your knowledgeable guide points out residents and migrants as you move between habitats, giving you the context to identify what you're seeing. Entrance tickets and an air-conditioned vehicle are included; minimum age is five.
