Question 4

Can you eat the fruit of Syzygium cumini?

Yes, the ripe fruit is edible and commonly eaten fresh, often with a pinch of salt to offset its natural astringency. It is also used to make juice and occasional preserves. The fruit is mildly laxative and is considered a digestive aid in traditional practice.

Question 5

Where does the Java plum tree grow in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Syzygium cumini grows across a wide range of ecological zones in Sri Lanka, from the dry zone plains to wet zone home gardens.
