Accepted Answer

The plant is catalogued in Sri Lanka's Ayurvedic medicinal plant inventory. Question 3

Where is Michelia nilagirica var. walkeri found in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

It is associated with the montane and sub-montane forest zones of Sri Lanka's wet zone, particularly in the central highlands. Areas such as the forests connected to Horton Plains and the Sinharaja region provide suitable cool, humid habitat for plants in this genus.

Question 4

Why is the variety called 'walkeri'?

Accepted Answer

Question 5

Is Michelia nilagirica var. walkeri endangered?

Accepted Answer

A formal conservation status for this specific variety has not been widely published in major international databases. Like many specialist montane plant varieties in Sri Lanka, it may face pressures from habitat loss, making ongoing botanical surveys and forest conservation important for its long-term survival.

Question 6

Can I see Michelia nilagirica var. walkeri at Sri Lankan botanical gardens?

Accepted Answer

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya, near Kandy, maintain extensive collections of Sri Lankan native trees and may include Michelia species. Contacting the gardens directly or consulting with a botanical guide is the most reliable way to locate specific species within the grounds.
