About this experience
Depart from your Yala hotel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle and travel to Udawalawe National Park — a 30,821-hectare sanctuary in Sri Lanka's south-central highlands. Established in 1972 to protect the catchment area of Udawalawe Reservoir, the park is home to one of the island's largest wild elephant populations, as well as buffalo, crocodiles, and a rich variety of birdlife. The Central Highlands escarpment forms a dramatic backdrop as your English-speaking driver covers the transfer.
Once inside the park, board a jeep and spend the safari scanning the open grasslands and reservoir edges where elephants gather to drink. A one-litre bottle of mineral water per person is included to keep you refreshed on the trail. Hotel pick-up and drop-off are arranged throughout, making this a fully organised, private nine-hour day trip. Note that park entrance tickets, meals, and gratuities are not included in the price.
