Lankawe Bali Shanthikarma is a Sinhala-language book on the bali ceremonies of Sri Lanka; the title translates as the bali rituals of Lanka. It is credited to Jayantha Amarasingha and published by Godage International Publishers.
Bali is one of the oldest and most elaborate ritual traditions of the Sinhala people, held to propitiate the planetary gods and a range of demons. Rather than being embodied by masked dancers, these beings are represented by bali images sculpted in wet clay and painted in natural pigments, ephemeral pieces made for the ceremony itself.
The cover shows a ceremony in progress: tall painted figure boards standing in a row at night, with men in white seated on a mat before them, and a long painted figure laid out beneath the Sinhala title. The text is entirely in Sinhala and sits within the literature on Sri Lankan folklore and custom.
