About this experience
Board the Podi Menike (Train No. 1006) at Ella station at 09:24 and settle in for 6 hours 30 minutes of some of Sri Lanka's most celebrated highland scenery. Your ticket covers either a 1st class air-conditioned compartment or a 2nd class non-AC reserved seat, both booked through Lakpura. The train winds through lush tea estates, farming villages, dense forests, and a string of tunnels before pulling into Kandy/Peradeniya station at around 16:05.
The stretch between Haputale and Hatton is widely regarded as the most spectacular section — expect sweeping valley views and emerald hillsides rolling past your window. Note that hotel pickup and drop-off, food, drinks, and personal expenses are not included, so pack your own refreshments for the ride.
