About this experience
This two-day tour runs north from Colombo into Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle, taking in two UNESCO World Heritage cities that once served as the island's ancient capitals. It covers Anuradhapura, a monastic city whose ruins stretch back over a thousand years, and Polonnaruwa, the fortified capital that succeeded it, with a stop at Sigiriya in between as you move between the two.
Travelling by private vehicle with an English-speaking chauffeur guide, you walk through the scattered pagodas, ponds and monastery grounds of Anuradhapura before continuing to the compact, well-preserved ruins of Polonnaruwa, including its carved stonework and royal monuments. The route is built around giving a clear sense of how Sri Lankan kingship, religion and city planning developed across more than a thousand years.
The tour is run on a private basis, so the schedule is yours alone rather than shared with other travellers. Ground transport, fuel, tolls and guide services are arranged throughout; hotel stays, meals and site entrance fees are handled separately, giving you the choice of where to stay and eat along the way.
