About this experience
Collected from your Kandy hotel, you travel by private air-conditioned vehicle into the Matale Highlands on this 10-hour private day tour. The route begins at Nalanda Gedige, a centuries-old stone shrine that blends Hindu and Buddhist architecture in a way historians still debate. Next, step into the Euphoria Spice and Herbal Gardens, where a guide walks you through rows of cinnamon, cardamom, and pepper before a chef demonstrates how those same spices come together in a traditional Sri Lankan dish. Entrance tickets, a cooking demo, and a one-litre water bottle per person are all included.
The afternoon moves to Aluvihara Rock Temple, where ancient manuscripts were first committed to writing inside cave shrines cut into a granite cliff. You then swap the vehicle for a tuk-tuk ride down to Sembuwatta Lake, arriving in time to watch the light change over the water at sunset. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide is with you throughout. Children aged five and above are welcome. Meals, beverages beyond the included water, and gratuities are at your own expense.
